Maternity Leave - QPIP

As of July 26th, 2012, the period of time a pregnant teacher is receiving salary insurance no longer has to be included in calculating her Quebec Parental Insurance Plan (QPIP) benefits.
Up to that point, the period of time that a teacher was on salary insurance (75% of salary) was calculated towards their average salary for QPIP.
This was unjust and inequitable because it had a negative impact on the teachers' benefits.
Now the teacher will be able to make a request to QPIP that this period of time on salary insurance be skipped over when applying for the QPIP benefits.
QPIP will then go back to the start of salary insurance and use those periods of earnings.
