Continuing Education – Recall Teachers
As per our local agreement in both the Adult and Vocational Sectors, the school board may remove from the recall list the name of the teacher…
a. Who was not available for work for a period of twenty-four (24) consecutive months. Except for reasons, such as: Maternity, paternity, parental leave or due to disability (sick leave).
b. Who has refused two (2) offers in the same school year for posts for which he or she is qualified and for which he or she declared himself or herself available.
c. Who has resigned during the course of an engagement
The school board interprets letter ‘b’ to mean that every time you are offered the teaching of a competency or competencies, you are being offered a post. This means that if you refuse two within the same year, you are at risk of being removed from the recall list.
At this point in the year, the school board is staffing for the 2018-19 year, if you reject any of the competencies offered, you are deemed to have one refusal on file (no matter the number of competencies). Please note that this will lower the hours you were offered and there is no obligation for those hours to be replaced*.
*You may be topped up if competencies arise throughout the year as per your rank on the recall list, your schedule, and your availability.
If you are offered competencies throughout the 2018-19 year, each individual competency will be considered one refusal providing it is a complete competency of at least 30 hours that fit in your schedule and respect your availability sheet**.
