Security of employment system
Staffing needs for the next
school year are being determined in the Spring by the school board. Different
steps take place to determine the needs and the excess for each school and
across the school board.
The first step is to verify the
seniority, the experience and the category for each full-time teacher. (Regular
teacher) .
Full-time teacher: a teacher engaged by
a tacitly renewable annual contract
For security of employment it is very important that teachers are classified in the correct category. This refers to clause 5-3.10 and Appendix II of the provincial entente.
Every teacher should be classified in the category in which he or she teaches.
If a teacher teaches in one or
more category, he or she shall be in the category in which he or she provides
the major portion of his or her teaching.
Because of the declining student population, it is very important that this is respected so we can assure that the declaration of excess is correctly done, and the rights of the teachers are respected.
It is the teachers' responsibility to make sure that the major portion of his or her workload is in the category in which he or she will be classified on the seniority list.
PTU and the school board will be looking at this closely for the next school year, so we can assure that teachers' rights, seniority and category are respected when declaring excess.
